Community Programs
Volunteer and social opportunities connecting communities with their local food systems.
Community-Centered Programming
Outside of our grade-level programming, SustainEd Farms hosts a wide variety of community-centered events and programs throughout the year. In the past, we’ve partnered with the Rotary Club of Denver, the Walls Project, Denver Urban Gardens, the Denver Public Schools Foundation, and many more amazing local organizations.
We regularly host volunteer events at our school gardens, helping to not only beautify the space, but to create formidable, lasting relationships between the surrounding community and their school gardens. These gardens are a space for a neighborhood to come together, work hard, and enjoy the fruits of their labor – sometimes literally! You can check out our events page to see all of our upcoming volunteer opportunities & find the right fit for you.
What We Offer
-
Volunteer days in school gardens: Throughout the growing season, we host a multitude of volunteer days in our school gardens across the Denver Metro area. On these days, you'll help out with a variety of garden maintenance tasks depending on the season. These could include activities such as weeding, harvesting, and watering the garden beds.
-
Community events and workshops: SustainEd Farms holds an array of community events and workshops all year round. From the Florence Crittenton Fiesta to our yearly Secret Garden, we have an abundance of opportunities for our community to come together, learn something new, and celebrate sustainable spaces together.
-
Partnerships with local organizations: In the past, we've held some wonderful events with local organizations, such as the Park Hill Bike Bus Bonanza in association with the Northeast Park Hill Bike Co-Op, Bikes Together, and Denver Food Rescue. -
Educational outreach opportunities: With our partnerships with Denver Public Schools and Vive Wellness, SustainEd Farms has become a leader in educational outreach in Denver, connecting students with their communities from ECE through high school. Through back-to-school nights, connections with school administration, and parent-centered events, we provide a direct connection between our school programming and the community it serves.

Where Our Food Goes
-
School Cafeterias: Produce that meets quality and safety standards is integrated into Denver Public Schools’ meals through a partnership with DPS Food & Nutrition Services, giving students the full-circle experience of growing and eating their own food.
-
Community & School-Based Food Pantries: Excess harvest is donated to local food pantries, ensuring fresh, nutritious food reaches families in need.
-
Special Events & Community Meals: Some produce is used in garden-based cooking demonstrations or community events to highlight healthy food access.
