Bilingual Programming Coordinator

SustainEd Farms is a non-profit that addresses unequal access to sustainability curriculum and fresh foods for students in the Greater Denver Area. SustainEd Farms is seeking a full-time independent contractor to support our bilingual school-based programming. Compensation is estimated at $47,840-$54,080 yearly, based on experience. Title: Bilingual Program Coordinator

 

Employment Type: Full-time independent contractor (hourly)

Schedule: 40 hours a week; Monday - Friday with occasional weekend events

Expected Start Date: April 1st, 2024 (flexible for the right candidate)

Pay Rate: $23.00-$26.00 hourly ($47,840-$54,080 yearly), based on experience. 

Benefits: Flexible work schedule. Access to regular professional development. Monthly health benefits stipend ($150 per month). Two weeks paid vacation (80 hours).

Location: Denver, CO (or front range, CO); hybrid: in-person and telework

Supervised By: Manager of Operations and Programs & Executive Director

 

About SustainEd Farms: 

SustainEd Farms is a Denver 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses gardens as a way of teaching students about nutrition and environmental sustainability, while using the food produced to supplement communities that lack equitable access to fresh, healthy foods. We work with 30 Denver schools, grades pre-K through 12, supporting over 5,000 students. At these school gardens, we grow over 3,000 lbs of food and distribute it to food banks and no-cost farm stands. We are guided by our mission: Growing food. Growing knowledge. Growing justice.

 

Essential Functions and Objectives:

SustainEd is excited to be expanding and partnering with new schools across Denver, including several schools with dual language programs and significant ELL populations.This position helps to ensure that our organization is effectively serving Spanish-speaking, bilingual and dual language learners with outstanding programming year-round.

  • Leading sustainability and nutrition programming initiatives with students at school garden sites year-round in both Spanish and English.

  • Supporting maintenance of school garden sites throughout the growing season, which includes the harvesting, packaging and distribution of food grown.

 

Responsibilities: 

Contractor will focus their efforts on the development of programs in alignment with SustainEd Farms vision and mission and work closely with the primary contact, other SustainEd staff and contractors, and partner organizations. The deliverables that Contractor shall provide include the following:

  • Contractor will arrange regular check-in meetings with the primary contact and submit a written report at the end of each month describing the deliverables completed and organizing activities conducted.

  • Contractor will lead student-centered and community-centered, hands-on sustainability and nutrition programming at school gardens in both Spanish and English with the support of other staff. 

  • Contractor will be responsible for watering, maintaining, and harvesting from gardens at assigned school sites during the growing season.

  • Periodically, translate program content and resources for Spanish-language audiences

  • Other program development efforts that may be agreed upon by Contractor and the SustainEd Primary Contact.

  • Fluent English and Spanish proficiency: writing, speaking and comprehension skills required

  • Preferred experience in gardening/farming

  • Preferred experience working with diverse student groups, including dual language learners

  • A love of the outdoors and plant life

  • A high school degree or GED

  • The ability to pass a background check 

  • Access to reliable transportation

  • The ability to lift heavy objects

  • The ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time
