
Program Specialist
SustainEd Farms is a non-profit that addresses unequal access to sustainability curriculum and fresh foods for students in the Greater Denver Area. SustainEd Farms is seeking a seasonal part-time independent contractor to help care for our school garden sites and support our programming initiatives. Compensation is estimated at $21-24/hour, based on experience, for approximately 20-30 hours a week. The position is seasonal and lasts from May 1st through October 31st.

About SustainEd Farms:
SustainEd Farms is a Denver 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses gardens as a way of teaching students about nutrition and environmental sustainability, while using the food produced to supplement communities that lack equitable access to fresh, healthy foods. We work with 30 Denver schools, grades pre-K through 12, supporting over 5,000 students. At these school gardens, we grow over 3,000 lbs of food annually, and distribute it to food banks and no-cost farm stands. We are guided by our mission: Growing food. Growing knowledge. Essential Functions and Objectives:
Throughout the growing season SustainEd Farms needs additional support at school gardens across Denver. Contractor will contribute to the SustainEd Farms garden initiatives by:

Supporting maintenance of school garden sites throughout the growing season, which includes the harvesting, packaging and distribution of food grown.

Supporting sustainability and nutrition programming initiatives with students at school garden sites.
Responsibilities:
Contractor will focus their efforts on the development of programs in alignment with SustainEd Farms vision and mission and work closely with the primary contact, other SustainEd staff and contractors, and partner organizations. The deliverables that Contractor shall provide include the following:

Contractor will arrange regular check-in meetings with the primary contact and submit a written report at the end of each month describing the deliverables completed and organizing activities conducted.

Preparation for food distribution initiatives will be completed weekly, including harvesting, cleaning, packaging, and delivering crops to partner organizations.

Contractor will be responsible for watering and maintaining gardens at school sites.

Periodically, Contractor will partner with other staff to support student-centered and community-centered, hands-on sustainability and nutrition programming at school gardens.

Other program development efforts that may be agreed upon by Contractor and the SustainEd Primary Contact.
